A Guide to Understanding Engineered & Natural Stone Surfaces Series: Granite

17 June 2022

Granite is an igneous rock which is made up of minerals. It is formed through the process of crystallisation of magma, below the earths surface. There is a huge variety of granite, with loads of different patterns, textures, and crystals – meaning no slab is the same, making your kitchen completely bespoke to you.

When granite it quarried, it is a huge block, which is the cut into slabs. Each slab is relatively similar in terms of colour and pattern within each block, but they are not identical. At World of Marble, we will always ensure your slabs are from the same block to avoid any obvious differences.

At World of Marble, we seal your granite worktops, and when they are cared for properly by the customer, they are hard-wearing. There are chances that the granite can have pits in it, from where crystals might have fallen out, but we will ensure to avoid these areas, or make you aware if this isn’t possible.

Most granites are scratch resistant, but it is still recommended to use a chopping board as some soft granites may scratch. As well as this, we also recommend the use of a trivet, as granite worktops can receive a thermal shock and crack!Diamond Galaxy Granite

For daily cleaning, we would recommend warm soapy water to remove and food residue or water marks. We do not recommend using and abrasive cloths or sponges as these can scratch the worktop, and do not use any bleach or harsh cleaning products.

Please note, we do not stock granite. Please contact us for the details of our suppliers.
