Understanding Engineered & Natural Stone Surfaces, Series: Engineered Quartz

10 June 2022

Quartz is a manmade material, made up from crushed quartz minerals, mixed with resin, polymers, and pigments. They are then moulded and compressed to create a slab. This produces a highly durable surface which is easy to maintain. It is available in a large range of colours, and patterns, with some also mimicking the look of natural slabs.

Within batches, each slab is identical, which means what you see is what you get! It is a non-porous surface which doesn’t require sealing. It is highly stain-resistant, but it is recommended that any products with staining-potential should be removed as soon as possible.Royal Collection Ashby

It is not resistant to UV light, and therefore isn’t suitable for outdoor use as the stone will discolour over time. Trivets should be used as quartz it is not resistant to heat, and even though it is scratch resistant, it still recommended to use a chopping board.

For daily cleaning, the use of warm soapy water and a cloth is perfect. Don’t use any abrasive cloths or scourer as these can damage the worktop. For any harder stains, World of Marble would recommend Cif Cream Cleaner and a non-scratch scourer pad – make sure you rinse the surface thoroughly after use, as it can leave a sticky reside.

Avoid using any harsh chemicals such as bleach or oven cleaners as these can damage the work surface.
