How to Clean your New Stone Worktop

21 October 2021

Ensuring you have a good cleaning routine for your worktop is key to maintaining the quality and shine of any worktop.

We don’t recommend putting hot pans or cutting directly on any quartz or granite surface. Although it might not cause damage immediately on the surface of the stone, it might cause damage within the stone which can be irreparable and can cause major damage in the future. It will also void any warranty so should be avoided at all costs.

To clean a quartz, Neolith or granite surface, we recommend using hot soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge for daily cleaning. Dry your surface with a microfibre cloth or similar to remove soapy residue. For a tougher stain, Cif Cream Cleaner applied with a non-scratch scourer along with a bit of elbow grease should help. Make sure you rinse the surface thoroughly afterwards and dry to remove residue. It isn’t recommended to use anything abrasive or chemical based on your worktops unless advised by the manufacturer.

Marble is softer than granite and is more susceptible to stains and scratches, which is why it isn’t recommended in a kitchen environment. If you have marble in another room, soap and water should do the job for cleaning, and make sure you avoid anything chemical-based as this will corrode the stone.

Some surfaces are textured, meaning dirt can get caught in dips on the surface – this might just require a little more effort when cleaning to ensure all the dirt is removed.

For all worktops, the quicker spillages are cleaned up, the easier they will be to remove. Worktops are not ‘self-cleaning’ and do require daily care to ensure they last a long time in perfect condition. If you have any questions about what you can and cannot do with your worktop, please contact us for more information.
